Childhood and Early Life
George Soros was born on August 12, 1930, in Budapest, Hungary. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Soros survived the Nazi invasion of Hungary from March 1944 to 1945, and in 1947, he emigrated to England and supported himself by working as a railroad porter and a restaurant waiter.
